Central theme in the work of the Los Angeles-based artist Allie Pohl (1984): social and cultural conventions in the modern western society. This resulted in the Ideal Woman series, which consist of sculptures, video art, installations, ceramics and jewellery.
The title of the series is very cynical. Pohl questions society’s demands for perfection (Barbie’s measurements are that unlikely, if she’d be a real woman, she’d be forced to walk on all fours and wouldn’t even be able to lift her head) and that iconic reference makes her jewellery into a suitable First Moon gift.
The price of one coloured hanger with a silver coloured chain starts at US$ 25, the Sterling Silver XS Necklace (pictured) is US$ 200. All jewellery can be bought in shops of various museums and online via the artist’s web shop. alliepohl.com
