Ever since the start of the female hygiene industry we’re being made afraid of red stains. Advertisements focus on the shame and fear of blood leaking through our clothes. This annoyed writer, performer and designer Chella Quint so much that she started a Period Positive campaign. Mission: to turn the period stain into an object of beauty and desire, a fashion statement.
Fashion statement
No worries: it’s not necessary to use real blood. Just copy the StainsTM pattern (cut along the dotted lines) for a fashion statement in felt, silk, velvet, cotton or cardboard. Affix it to any item of clothing as and when you like. Or, if you prefer, turn it into a keychain.
Quint: ‘Screw you, Madison Avenue. I’m taking this one back. I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve and my blood on my pants. I’m gonna reclaim the stain, reclaim my blood, and reclaim my period. Because people, I’m telling you red is the new black.’
