Break the taboo about menstruation by making a selfie with a tampon.
Make a picture of yourself and your tampon, post it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, add the hashtag #JustaTampon, donate money to charity and nominate a friend to do the same. It’s the newest social media challenge launched by Plan UK and V Point News, called Just a Tampon.
Its goal? To remove the taboo around menstruation and to raise money. By texting ‘TAMPON’ to 70007 you’ll be donating £3 to Plan UK, a charity which supports menstrual health in developing countries. According to this organisation, a single donation can fund sanitary towels for a girl in Uganda for a year. Also, you’ll be taking part in a conversation about periods, something that even nowadays still has a bit of a stigma.
It’s not only women posing with the sanitary products. Men join in as well; Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow has already posted a tampon selfie on Twitter and lots of guys can be seen with tampons stuck in their noses (uh, wrong hole…). The woman in the striped shirt is Suzannah Ramsdale from Marie Claire. Will you be sharing a photo of yourself and a tampon too? After all, it’s just a piece of cotton on a string. Nothing to be embarrassed about!
