Washable menstrual products in which you menstruate without stress – underwear, swimwear, sportswear. They certainly have their benefits. For starters: they’re better for your budget. And also for the environment. Another plus: you’ll feel less ‘on your period‘ if you don’t have to fiddle with menstrual pads or tampons. It isn’t without reason that period underwear, sportswear & swimwear are taking over store shelves at breakneck speed. Nowadays, most retail chains have at least one menstrual panty in their collection.
Of course there are also some disadvantages. Main point of criticism: you have to wash them, which is ‘dirty’. But why exactly? You wash your other underwear too, don’t you? Take advantage of these practical laundry tips. The tips can also be used for your reusable menstrual pads.
Step 1: Exchange and store
What goes for menstrual pads and tampons also applies to underwear, swimwear and sportswear with a leak-proof gusset: change on time to prevent infections or worse. The packaging may say that it can be worn for 8 to 12 hours, but if you have a heavy period that’s of course anything but smart. This means you may have to change your leak-proof menstrual underwear in a different place than at home.
